Ina Garten Berries & Jam Milkshakes

Ina Garten berries & jam milkshakes, a quick party dessert, came from food stylist Abby Derethik, who blended them for the TV show crew. Frozen strawberries, Greek yogurt, and strawberry preserves make each glass thick and fruity enough for any family gathering.

Blend the frozen strawberries with milk first before adding the rest, because the berries need to break down completely on their own. Soften the ice cream in the microwave for 30 seconds before measuring, so it blends smooth.

A creamy blender milkshake loaded with frozen strawberries, fresh raspberries, and vanilla ice cream, thickened with Greek yogurt and strawberry preserves.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole frozen strawberries (10 ounces)

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1 cup good vanilla ice cream, such as Häagen-Dazs (see note)

  • 7 ounces 5% plain Greek yogurt, such as Fage

  • 6 ounces fresh raspberries, plus extra for garnish

  • 1/2 cup good strawberry preserves, such as Tiptree

  • 1 tablespoon raspberry liqueur (optional)

Directions

  • Blend and serve: Place the strawberries and milk in a blender and blend on high until combined. (If your blender isn’t large, 7 to 8 cups capacity, you will need to make this recipe in two batches.) Add the ice cream, yogurt, raspberries, strawberry preserves, and liqueur, if using, and blend on high until smooth. Pour into glasses and garnish each drink with a few raspberries. Serve ice cold.

FAQs

Can I make these without raspberry liqueur?

Yes, the raspberry liqueur is already listed as optional in the recipe. Skip it and you will still get a thick, intensely fruity milkshake. The strawberry preserves carry most of the flavor on their own.

How long do berries and jam milkshakes keep?

These are best served right away because they get thin as the frozen strawberries melt. If you must wait, pour them into glasses and put them in the freezer for up to 30 minutes, but the texture will not be the same as fresh.

Can I make the milkshakes ahead of time?

You can measure and prep all the ingredients in advance, but do not blend until you are ready to serve. Once blended, they start to separate and lose their thickness within about 15 minutes.

Do I need a specific blender for these milkshakes?

Any standard blender works, but if yours holds less than 7 to 8 cups, you should make the recipe in two batches. A high-powered blender gives you a smoother result with the frozen fruit.

What if my milkshake comes out too thick to pour?

Add a splash more milk, a tablespoon at a time, and blend again until you reach the consistency you want. Starting with the frozen strawberries and milk first helps the blender work through the frozen fruit without jamming.
